“Make Me A Research Analyst”
The qualifications you will need to succeed as a research analyst…
What is a Research Analyst?
Depending on whether you work on the ‘buy side’ or ‘sell side’ your role as a research analyst will involve different things.
If you work on the ‘sell side’, research is the division of an investment bank which reviews companies and writes reports about their prospects, often with “buy” or “sell” ratings. Your research is also used to assist traders in trading, the sales force in suggesting ideas to customers, and investment bankers by covering their clients.
If you work on the ‘buy side’, research is a division at an investment institution used to assist fund managers in making ‘buy’ and ‘sell’ decisions. You may even work as a research analyst for a completely different type of institution like an accountancy or consultancy institution.
In general research analysts analyse different specialist areas such as equities, emerging markets, sectors, businesses, commodities, economics, currencies, fixed income and the list goes on.
“That sounds very fancy, but what does that all mean?”
