What is a personal banker?
Personal Bankers assist the banks customers. They have more of a focus on recommending and selling the banks products. The work is very client facing and sales orientated, selling new and existing products and services to customers. Products include insurance, brokerage accounts, funds and trusts, mortgages, bonds and other products. You will also refer clients to mortgage and insurance brokers.
If I work in personal banking what will I be doing?
As well as dealing with incoming customers you will be contacting potential clients, explaining the services available, and try to determine the customers banking and other financial products needs. You will have to explain the difference between different bank accounts, loans and other products.
You could work in the bank branch or in the customer services call centre. If you work in the branch you will be selling and assisting walk-in banking customers. You will spend most of your time face to face with clients and the rest of your time on the phone contacting clients and making appointments. You will often receive client referrals from cashiers and other employees.
