Graduates told ‘experience is not everything’

Finance graduates and others should not worry if they do not have lots of experience, an expert has suggested.

Writing for Bristol 24-7, Nick Sturge said some recruiters prefer to go for enthusiasm over qualifications.

He noted: "Every company is different and a person having performed in one company is no guarantee that they are able to transfer that ability to perform to another company."

Mr Sturge added it is essential to look at the transferability of a candidate during an interview, along with assessing their ability to learn and adapt to different situations.

The specialist also stated employers only use CVs as a guide as they can not tell what an applicant is really like until they come face-to-face with them.

Meanwhile, human resources director Claire Cooper recently suggested graduates research the firm before they get to the interview stage.

She noted that bosses like to see candidates who go that extra mile and use their initiative.
