People in finance graduate jobs have been advised to "think like a marathon runner" in order to reduce their stress load and perform better at work.

Adopting a marathon mindset, by way of starting up slow then picking up pace, is an effective method of reducing stress in the workplace, reports dnaindia.com.

The findings were released by researchers at Tel Aviv University, who found that people with high levels of self-control tend to burn out the fastest.

Lead researcher Dr Danit Ein-Gar told the news provider: "The world may be multi-tasking at a frenetic pace but in thinking like a marathon runner, people with high self-control won’t mind other people passing them.

"Marathon runners know that the race is long, but the winner is the one who can finish the race at the end with power left over to keep running," she added.

Meanwhile, workers have been told that they should "fight back" against a culture that is leading people to build up huge amounts of unpaid overtime.

Research conducted by the Trades Union Congress revealed that almost a million people build up an average of two hours of free labour every day.ADNFCR-2605-ID-19650851-ADNFCR
