Fears surround banking graduate job prospects

Young Britons are worried that banking graduate job prospects could be hampered by the ongoing effects of the recession, new research has found.

The latest Youth Commission report, by independent education foundation Edge, reveals that 64 per cent of young people believe that the recession will have lasting effects on their employment prospects.

Some 58 per cent believe that changes need to be made within the education system to improve their employability, and nearly half do not feel that they have had enough work experience to inform their career choice.

The study was carried out in conjunction with youth community Habbo Hotel.

Commenting on the findings, director of the Edge Learner Forum Rose Dowling said: "We are at a critical stage where, if the employment situation for young people continues, it will be a danger to them and to society.

"We can’t let this happen and need to make sure that this and future generations are prepared for employment and have the many paths to success they deserve."

Meanwhile, the latest Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development’s quarterly Labour Market Outlook study indicates no overall return to growth for the jobs market despite the end of the recession. ADNFCR-2605-ID-19618899-ADNFCR
