Global recruitment firm Hays has reported a "modest" expansion in private sector recruitment, which is good news for those looking for places on finance graduate schemes.

During the three months to December 31st 2009, private sector recruitment saw the employment landscape stabilise.

Chief executive of Hays, Alistair Cox told the news provider: "Although specialist recruitment markets continue to be very challenging, candidate and client sentiment have improved over recent months and this is encouraging for future trends in the business.

"We have seen a return to sequential growth in demand, albeit at a modest rate."

Demand for jobs abroad had seen particular growth, he added, including the successful Asia Pacific region.

While a boost in the number of private sector jobs could help those interested in finance graduate schemes, the job market remains highly competitive in the financial services sector.
