The number of people securing professional qualifications from university could reduce as a result of proposed reductions in government funding for universities. <br/><br/>Peter Mandelson has written to the Higher Education Funding Council for England informing it that funding in the country will be reduced by £398 million for 2010–11. <br/><br/>Warnings have been sounded that such cuts in fiscal assistance will only serve to harm the quality of service that English universities can offer. <br/><br/>Johnny Rich, editor of Push.co.uk, said: "Any cut in funding is bound to influence the ability of universities to offer a continuing high level of education. <br/><br/>"Our university sector is something we should be extremely proud of, but it does need funding to protect that and to expand it."<br/><br/>A number of university leavers could be affected by the potential deterioration in education quality and experience increased difficulty in securing a place of reputable post-university programmes, such as banking graduate schemes. <br/><img alt=”ADNFCR-2605-ID-19533124-ADNFCR” src=”http://feeds.directnews.co.uk/feedtrack/justcopyright.gif?feedid=2605&itemid=19533124″ />
