Students can help their graduate job prospects by taking up part-time work during university holidays or alongside their academic work.
That is according to the Association of Graduate Careers Advisory Services (AGCAS), which claims that employers are increasingly looking for work experience on top of good degree results, particularly in the current economic climate.
The organisation claims that it is not essential for part-time work to relate to the graduate’s chosen career path, as different forms of work teach skills which can be applied elsewhere.
Paul Redmond, president of AGCAS, said: "Careers Services are really keen to help students to find part time jobs, largely because it is not just a way of students earning extra money – part time jobs can often be a fantastic insight into graduate jobs."
As well as gaining experience through part-time work, those who have their hearts set on finance graduate schemes should consider whether getting professional qualifications would be a good option for them.
Additionally, it is important that all graduates looking for jobs get the best and most up-to-date careers advice.
